Efrosinia Boyko lived with her daughter Sofia in Kyiv. Their nearest neighbor was the Lipnitsky family. There were four people there. As soon as the Germans invaded the territory of the Soviet Union in june 1941, Lipnitsky was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and then he died in a battle. His Wife with their children, who were 12-year-old Mara and four-year-old Arkady, decided to evacuate in the east. They didn’t have any time to go far when the Germans completely occupied the region and they needed to return to Kyiv. In the first part of September Efrosinia`s friend said that Lipnitsky was back in the city and now they are living in this woman’s house.
Efrosinia and Sofia went to visit their last neighbors and those people told that they came back to Kyiv because they guessed that they had more chance to survive in the city then somewhere else. Efrosinia and Sofia left food for Lipnitsky. On this night Tatyana Lipnitskaya and her children turned to the threshold of Boyko’s house despite the curfew. It turned out that the son — in — law of Boyko`s friends ordered them to expel the jewish family. During 5 days they were hiding in Boyko’s house and then Sofia took them to Vasilkov, to her aunt’s house. From there Sofia`s uncle helped to go to the village of Ksaverovka, where they were mistaken for refugees, they managed to find work, despite the absence of any documents. After release Lipnitsky came back to Kyiv. 7 September 1997 Yad Vashem honored Efrosinia Boyko and her daughter Sofia Boyko with the honorary title of "Righteous among the Nations of the World".
